Details

Threetops at Treetops Resort in Michigan, is a celebrated nine-hole, par-3 course designed by Rick Smith, known for its spectacular elevation changes and dramatic Northern Michigan scenery. Established in 1992, the course features holes ranging from roughly 140 to more than 200 yards from the back tees, with elevated tee boxes, challenging greens, and significant drops—including the aptly named “Devil’s Drop,” which plunges approximately 145 feet from tee to green.

Despite its short-course format, Threetops has built an impressive reputation and hosted the ESPN Par-3 Shootout for eight years, attracting some of golf’s biggest names. Its most famous moment came on the seventh hole in 2001, when Lee Trevino made a hole-in-one to win $1.09 million, adding to the history of a course that combines incredible views, memorable shots, and plenty of challenge in just nine holes.
