Arizona Review

Welcome to the Kierland! One of the finest areas in Scottsdale, here you will be greeted with fantastic restaurants, upscale shopping, and of course exceptional golf. Kierland Golf Club lies within the Westin Kierland Resort; one of the premier resorts in all of Phoenix. You will experience nothing but best when it comes to service. The golf club harbors the usually amenities of a course of this caliber; driving range, putting green, chipping area, and now two brand new practice bunkers for the 2019-2020 season! Are your grips a little worse for ware? No problem as Kierland is partnered with Ping golf to provide any club adjustments and repairs. Lets talk about the golf. Kierland is a 27 hole resort style course, split into three separate but distinct 9 hole courses, you have Ironwood, Acacia, and Mesquite. Mesquite stands out among the three courses as it is not in your typical resort style design. On Mesquite all nine holes are very playable with nice open fairways, and large greens. The first few holes play pretty simply no doglegs, low amount of bunkers, no crazy elevation changes. Hole 2 does offer and nice view of the villas and homes located along the course, with a stunning Mountain view peaking over the trees. Things on Mesquite really get interesting on Hole 5 as a rolling hills are prominent through the remainder of the course, creating a pleasing to the eye course design with its own distinct feel from the other courses on Kierland, with a touch of difficulty. Acacia is easily the most beautiful course among the three at Kierland. Hole 1 carries some of the designs of Mesquite with rolling hills in the middle of a long par 5 fairway. You will find more difficulty on Acacia as there are more dips and elevation changes along the course. Holes 6-9 are the four of the most beautiful holes located on Kierland Golf Resort. Hole 6 is a long par three elevated above a valley of natural desert grass, and trees. Hole 7 is a beautiful open par 4 with a lake to your left and the resort behind you, bunkers lie between the fairway and the lake on your left side so be careful with your approach into the green. Hole 8 adds another long par 3 with the green being protected by 3 strategically placed bunkers, including one massive bunker located to the right of the green. Finally hole 9 a massive elevated par 5, looking down you have the lake to your left along with fairway being placed atop a hill slightly dipping down into the lake itself. The green is littered with bunkers separating itself and the lake. Ironwood is the biggest challenge among the three courses. The course proves it too with hole 1 housing a elevated tee box, with ironwood trees creating a split fairway, the right side offering the safer of the two options, but the left creating a easier shot to the green. Ironwood unlike the other two courses offers more elevated tee boxes and elevation throughout which is a standard among many of the courses in Phoenix and Scottsdale. Kierland Golf Club will stand out on your vacation for you and your group with stunning course conditions, creativity and player friendly design. If you're hungry after your round you will not have to travel far as you are in the Kierland Commons itself, drive on down to Mastero's Ocean Club, and get a dinner that is fit for the golf you just played!
