For our history buffs there is Historic Eatonville, incorporated in 1887 it’s one of the oldest African American Municipalities in the United States, also home to the acclaimed Zora Neale Hurston with a festival held in her honor every year in the Spring. The Orlando Museum of Art holds one of the most extensive collections of Latino art in the state to celebrate the rich history of Latino’s in Orlando and across the state. The Orange County Regional History Center and Heritage Square Park is a Smithsonian Institution affiliate housed in a historic courthouse built in 1927 tracing 12,000 years of central florida history.
American Victory Mariners Museum is one of only four operational World War II ships in the country, a historic national landmark.Cracker Country Living History Museum gives a glimpse of rural Florida outdoor living, a view of original Florida settlers lifestyle. Florida Museum of Photographic Arts and Morean Arts Center both give guests a brilliant look into Art. Tampa Bay History Center spans 3 floors showing o12,000 years of Florida history.
Richard and Pat Johnson Palm Beach County History Museum or the Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens are an excellent addition to any itinerary. Yesteryear Village at the South Florida Fairgrounds is a quaint village recreated to show 19th century life.
The Stranahan House and the King Cromartie House are must sees for our history buffs, being some of the oldest homes in the area of Fort Lauderdale. Indian Mound Park is home to the graves of the ancient Tequesta indigineous people being a thousand years old! In Miami there’s the Barnacle State Historical Site with one the oldest homes in the country, with one of the last remaining hardwood hammock forests surrounding it. St. Bernard de Clairvaux Church, Ancient Spanish Monastery was built in Spain in 1141and brought to America by William Randolph Hearst, being the oldest building in the Western Hemisphere.
